Hurraw! Balm Ayurvedic Trio
Hurraw! recently released a new trio of lip balms based on Ayurvedic Dosha principles. Ayurveda is a traditional Indian belief that the body is composed of three Doshas (Vata [wind], Pitta [fire & water], and Kapha [water & earth]), and that every person has a unique balance of these elemental forces within. I don’t personally prescribe to this belief, but as an outsider, I’ve always found it pretty fascinating. I like the idea of being in tune with internal balance, and I suppose that on some level, we’re always trying to maintain that balance, whatever it may actually be. We ought to know our own selves best. The new Hurraw! balms are infused with with various plants known to compliment each Dosha, and the combinations seemed intriguing and unique; I had to give them a try.
I’ve ordered from Hurraw! a couple of times, now, and I’ve always been pleased. The balms are lovingly handmade and packaged beautifully. This time around, I was sent a free Earl Grey balm, which I am in love with.
Here’s a quick rundown of the Ayurvedic balms (click the names to read more about each Dosha, and/or purchase):
Vata: grounding, an infusion of ashwanga root with almond, cardamom, and rose
Pitta: cooling, an infusion of amalaki fruit with coconut, lemongrass, and peppermint
Kapha: energizing, an infusion of tulsi leaf with grapefruit, eucalyptus, and ginger
These are totally unexpected combinations for lip balms, which was why I was originally drawn to them, and they do not disappoint. I love all of them, but I am especially fond of the Pitta balm. The scent is soothing and there’s just a bit of a tingle from the peppermint.
I’ve been using a cheap natural beeswax balm from the dollar store, so it took my lips a little while to get used to this product, again. It was nice to treat myself! These balms are light and super smooth with a hint of shine. They are animal-product and testing free, and are handmade in small batches using a combination of high quality organic and raw ingredients.
I used to have a hardcore lip balm addiction, but now that I’m drinking lots of water and have switched to non-petroleum lip products, I don’t really use it quite as much. With these, at least it’ll feel like a bit of pick-me-up!
