Hello again! I’d offer some sort of explanation about the cyclically occurring existential crisis of Ye Olde lifestyle blogger, but I’ve come to realize I don’t owe anybody anything. Neither do you. This is true if you have a hundred-thousand followers or if you have ten. Be content in your work or lack thereof, never apologetic.

I will explain part of my absence, though: I was …mostly just busy with school. At the end of the semester, I made an awkward twenty minute Power Point presentation and wrote a 20+ paper about the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) as it functions in Hawaii. This successfully wrangled me an A, even though I did maybe two-thirds of it kind of last minute. That’s how I rolled in undergrad, and I guess those habits don’t just disappear because you’re responsible and you’ve reached your thirties.

If you’re at all interested in reading about my academic/future professional life, do leave a comment here or even on Instagram! I wouldn’t mind talking about public history and conservation, or museum stuff.

Onward! To the Favorites!

  1. Finding eco friendly underthings is slowly but surely becoming easier. I just discovered Maine (!) brand Brook There, which offers a decent selection of organic cotton bras and underwear. Pictured above is the Alchemy bra in black organic cotton with blue silk trim. I am working on an updated Ethical Underthings post, as the original is four years old and definitely a bit out of date! Things are only getting better.
  2. I’d like for my Friday Favorites posts to be more than just a glorified weekly wish list, so I’ll continue to make an effort to include things that I already own, use and love. The Constance top (in the shade moonrock) from PrAna has become an integral part of my summer wardrobe; I reach for it at least once a week. Every piece I own from PrAna is well loved and frequently worn.
  3. Fairy Girl is a 100% cruelty free and vegan cosmetics company. Their liquid-to-matte formula in Sacred (taupey brown) is so gorgeous, and I reach for it even when I’m just hanging around the house (which is kind of a lot). This product dries down, but is still incredibly comfortable to wear! I’d really like to try some of the other liquid shades; both Pink Earth and Autumn Rose are right up my alley. You can use this link to save $10 on a $30 Fairy Girl purchase!
  4. I love this narwhal tote from Sea Bags! I know I’ve shared this company before, but they’re just so good. I’m sad to say that I missed out on a limited edition marine life print that helped to support the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. Whale print is the next best thing? All Sea Bags are handmade from recycled sail cloth in Portland, Maine. ♥
  5. Sivana is one of my favorite places to internet window shop. I love this dainty amazonite bracelet, which is meant to help with self discovery. These are great little bracelets for stacking. Sivana supports Fair Trade practices! First time ordering? Use the code GIRLDUST20 to save 20% at checkout!
  6. For every purchase made through their website yesterday, Seaweed Bath Company donated $1 to World Oceans Day. Add that to the list of reasons why this is one of my favorite skincare brands. Tj and I both really enjoy the Citrus Vanilla body wash. All products are cruelty free and vegan, and bottles are 100% post consumer recycled plastic. Seaweed Bath Co. is also available to purchase in-store and online at Target.

Thanks, as always, for reading. Have a great weekend!

Friday Favorites // 057 :: girldust.com

  1. In support of The National Parks Conservation Association and The National Park Foundation, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab has released a new scent. From BPAL: “The Theoi Nomioi are the gods and spirits of the wild: the countryside, the pastures, the forests. Under their auspices, untamed nature thrives, the beasts of the wild feast and multiply, the mountains reach to the heavens with their stony, snow-capped fingers, and the forests grow thick and dark with mystery.” You can follow the rogue un-gagged NPS Twitter account here, @AltNatParkSer.
  2. I guess I’m just feeling soft pinks and purples these days. This rhodonite Precious Threads bracelet from Alex and Ani is calling to me in dulcet, romantic tones.
  3. Spring has officially sprung at PrAna, and the collection is right up my alley. I’m particularly fond of this crochet neck top, which is Fair Trade and made from a recycled/organic fabric blend.
  4. Speaking of spring (because that’s what we do in January, I guess), Sparitual’s Inhale collection is gorgeous. Shown here is Inner Peace, which is probably my favorite of the bunch.
  5. Wave rings are back in stock at Pura Vida Bracelets. Available in gold plate and sterling silver. You can save 20% on your Pura Vida order with the code NAOMIDENSMORE20.
  6. These wooden sunglasses are on my shopping list. My current pair of shades is completely and utterly useless. Sometimes a girl just needs something both practical and fun. Love the rainbow.

Love Goodly is a bi-monthly box full of healthy, eco-conscious (all vegan) brands. Each box contains 5-7 mostly full-sized products, now priced at $29.95. You can read previous reviews here. This summertime box, benefitting Cure Cervical Cancer, is valued at $98. It is so, so worth the bi-monthly investment. I’ve tested a number of subscription boxes over the years, and this one has been my absolute favorite. It’s been the only box that has consistently given me a variety of products I love or, at the very least, have found useful.

Blissoma SolutionsAwake Facial Moisturizer $25.99 value

This is the second time I’ve gotten a luxe facial moisturizer from this subscription, and I absolutely love that. This moisturizer is a 100% natural, botanical recipe with antioxidants, vitamins, and firming herbs. It firms, de-puffs (yay!), and brightens. This is a great daily moisturizer and works well under makeup.

NovicaSterling Silver Ribbon Earrings $41.99 value

Novica is an online marketplace dedicated to fair prices and supporting global artisans. These earrings are made by Thai artist, Pichaya. I think I’ve found my new every day earrings! I am in love with these. I mentioned in my first Love Goodly box review that jewelry is a bit of a risky item to include in subscription boxes, and I am so thankful that I love both pieces I’ve received so far. I wear my bracelet from that first box almost daily!

Miracle TreeMoringa Tea in Strawberry $6.95 value

This light strawberry tea has arrived just in time for summer! Moringa leaves contain over 90 nutrients, including 47 antioxidants, 25 vitamins and minerals, and all 8 essential amino acids. This stuff is crazy.

Juice BeautyGlowing Cheek Color in Pink $16 value

I rarely wear blush, but this pink is subtle, fresh,  and shimmery. I will definitely be adding it to my routine.

OrglamixEco Chic Fan Brush $7.50 value

This vegan friendly brush with its bamboo handle is perfect for blush and highlighter, and is a really thoughtful addition to this box.

Friday Favorites // 050 :: girldust.com

This is a downright summery Friday Favorites! Have a good weekend, friends! I hope you’re able to spend some time outside. ♥

  1. The June Julep Maven collection was revealed, today. We’re still in pastel and brights territory, which is why I skipped May’s box, but I like Alaina (driftwood taupe creme) from this collection. I’ve been keeping my nails short due to some damage, so I’m into neutral polishes, lately.
  2. The Tribeca top from Mata Traders is so, so cute. It’s available in a red print, as well.
  3. I might have to do a full second post on enamel pins, but for now can we please at least appreciate the Moustache P.I.N. by Full Sweatpants? My mom was a big fan of detective and mystery shows when I was growing up (which is definitely why I’m still kind of obsessed), and Magnum PI was one of our favorites to watch together.
  4. I’ve fallen hard for this sterling silver whale wrap ring from Alex and Ani.
  5. I think you know how much I love PrAna. It’s not like it’s some big secret. The Amelie dress (show here in Green Lace, because it’s adorable) is made of a 45% recycled blend. PrAna offers a number of Fair Trade, organic, and recycled options. Read more about their sustainability practices here. In the recent kerfuffle over labor practices of the “luxury” activewear industry, this is a company worth supporting.
  6. New shades from Rituel de Fille. Check out the Cultus collection! I’d love to get my hands on Whitethorn. These lipsticks are 100% worth the splurge, by the way. I purchased Rue a few months ago, and I’ve never looked back. All Rituel de Fille products are cruelty-free, 99% natural, and handcrafted without parabens, phthalates, synthetic dyes or synthetic fragrances.
  7. We’re pretty candle obsessed in this house. Paddywax makes some of my favorites. This verbena and patchouli blend is new to me, and seems like it would smell amazing.

Love Goodly is a bi-monthly box full of healthy, eco-conscious brands. Each box contains 5-7 mostly full-sized products for $39.95. A percentage of proceeds from the April/May box go to support Farm Sanctuary.

Unboxing: Love Goodly April/May Box Review :: girldust.com

This box blows the previous one out of the water. Not only are each of the featured brands new to me, but the products are ones that I actually needed and will be using regularly (if not daily).

ZAO Organic Makeup – Organic Volume Mascara $35 value

Considering my current mascara is running low, and is one I am not particularly happy with, this couldn’t have come at a better time. After only two days of wear, I am totally in love with this product. This is 100% nontoxic, vegan, and certified organic. It applies like a dream and makes me feel incredibly fancy. Bamboo packaging, too!

Osea  – Atmosphere Protection Cream $48 value

While the name of this product makes me giggle, it’s actually really nice. This is a lightweight moisturizer with a bit of a minty scent to it. It starts out feeling a little bit sticky, but dries matte with a silky finish. This fits well into my daytime routine, in between LUSH’s Full of Grace serum and Pacifica’s Ultra CC Cream. I’m still using my own homemade facial oil at night.

myKind Organics – B-12 Vitamin Spray $16.95 value

This is a B-12 vitamin supplement in spray form. It’s vegan, made from real food, and 100% certified USDA organic. I take a real food iron supplement, and the difference it makes is real. If you have trouble with vitamin absorption, this might be something to look in to. I shouldn’t have to tell you, because you’re adults, but talk to your healthcare professional about any new supplement regimen, especially if you’re on medication. Basic stuff.

KOOSHOO – Organic Hair Ties $6 value

The LILA hair ties from KOOSHOO are USA made using organic cotton and natural rubber, and are hand dyed using low impact dyes. This Los Angeles company also gives 11% back to charity. These are cute enough to wear as bracelets, so I won’t worry as much about them getting lost! I would much rather have a few hair elastics I can keep tabs on than have 500 of them lost throughout the house and in the car. Who needs that?

Unboxing: Love Goodly April/May Box Review :: girldust.com

Nicobella Organics – Walnut Flaxseed Truffles $5.95 value

I’ve tried a few different dark chocolate coconut oil truffles, but these are quite possibly the best I’ve had. Ever. All the “super food” talk aside, you should try these because they are made with high quality ingredients and they taste amazing. That’s all. Treat yourself. Ground walnuts add an unexpected savory element that I love, plus a little bit of a crunch, and I’m not normally a walnut fan. These are vegan and gluten free, but sorry to my friend with a coconut allergy (or anyone with tree nut allergies). I am sad for you. Other varieties include lime basil (yes, please) and pumpkin chai.

Two boxes in, and I am incredibly happy with this subscription. My three favorites from this box are for sure the Zao mascara, the KOOSHOO hair elastics, and obviously the truffles from Nicobella. The Osea moisturizer is a close runner up.

Love Goodly is a winner. The next box arrives in June! You can sign up here.
