I am apparently “hard to shop for,” but I totally disagree. Sure, I have …eclectic taste, but I’m also really easy to please. Warm socks, lip balm, dark chocolate, maybe something sparkly. Done and done.

Here we are, though, some quality stocking stuffer ideas for your favorite everyday “strange and unusual” girl. 💀 👻

Friday Favorites // 041 Stocking Stuffer Edition :: girldust.com

  1. This dagger pendant by Mod Evil & Poison Apple Printshop is amazing. The design is available in bronze and sterling silver.
  2. The Yule 2015 collection from Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs is a stunner. There’s something for everybody. My personal picks? Frau Holle and The Season of Ghosts.
  3. You can’t go wrong with a nice pair of socks, especially here in New England. I like this organic cotton over-the-knee pair in gray. My toes are forever cold.
  4. This Woodwitch body butter from Cottage Wicks (available at Gypsy Warrior) blends cedarwood, frankincense, patchouli, blood orange, and fir oils. Yum.
  5. Lip balm is always a good choice. I want this deep violet tinted balm from Naked Eye Beauty/Sisters of the Black Moon.
  6. Check out these bronze and copper lapel pins. The coffin is my favorite.
  7. How about a nice scarf? This one from ModCloth is simple and cozy.
  8. I love this charcoal sandalwood soap (another Naked Eye Beauty creation). Charcoal is great for sensitive skin. Also, it’s black soap, so that’s fun!

Sometimes I feel a little sorry for those of you in warmer climes, even with snow on the horizon. One of my favorite things about living in New England is getting to experience all four seasons fully. Each month here breathes differently. Fall, in particular, brings with its sights and scents the strongest sense of nostalgia for me. I will visit so many places in my lifetime, but this will always be home. I am thankful that Maine is like Vermont in so many of the best ways.

  1. This gorgeous vintage-inspired dress will be available for purchase in November from ModCloth. Totally swoony.
  2. These hand painted amethyst runes are lovely.
  3. I think this sweet rose vine crown would be a nice addition to any headpiece collection.
  4. Julep’s November Maven collection is perfect. Matte metallics! I chose “Cheyenne” (auburn) and “Sonia” (steel blue), which will both see me through the winter. I can’t wait to combine them with some of my Jamberry nail wraps. If you’ve been on the fence about becoming a Maven, it’s a great time to join. New Mavens can receive a four piece metallics welcome box for free (+ $2.99 shipping) when they sign up using this link. A fully customizable Maven subscription is $24.99 a month, and it’s easy to skip out on the collections you don’t like. Mavens also earn points with every purchase, which can be used on future boxes.
  5. I love this delicate US-made opal ring.
  6. I’d like to try to make barmbrack. It’s a good time of year to start using the oven again. I’m not normally a fruited cake kind of person, but this recipe makes it look alright. I’d probably just use a combination of dried cherries and cranberries, and omit the raisins altogether.
  7. This wool-blend skirt from PrAna is a serious wardrobe essential.

Halloween is upon us (okay, pretty much)! Are you excited? I’m excited. It’s the time of year to let your inner goth shine without anyone pointing at you and laughing. Although, to be perfectly honest, now that I’m an adult I totally don’t care. It’s like I’m a slightly more confident, put together (also wiser and more thoughtful) version of the girl I was as a teenager. And I’m proud. That being said, I very rarely wear a black lip. My day-to-day look, especially  lately, actually involves very little makeup at all. But it’s soon to be October, friends. Magic is afoot. Be bold. Wear black lips with pride, if you don’t already. Don’t wait until last minute, either! Treat yourself to something luxurious. You’ve got plenty of time.

PS. Why is there no bat emoji? Or witch hat?

The following lip products are cruelty-free and/or vegan. I’ve listed them from most indulgent to least, and all (some more than others) are full of natural and nourishing ingredients. I’m serious about treating yourself.

two swipes of product, natural (mid-afternoon) light

Axiology lipsticks make for a totally decadent experience. This is a beautiful, lovingly made product. This is the highest quality lipstick I have ever owned, and it’s one I feel really good about purchasing (plus I got it on sale). Check out the ingredients list here. Existential is highly pigmented and ultra-moisturizing. I prefer to use a lip brush, but the lip color will apply nicely straight from the tube. This goes on smooth, with a light shine. This is a great example of a luxury brand with a wide range of color options. They make non-traditional colors really approachable.

Insomnia Cosmetics lipsticks are all made by hand in small batches. 3am is a semi-matte, highly pigmented black. There is instant gratification with this one. Applies best with a lip brush. I’m hoping this shop re-opens soon, because their products are great, with a lot of character. Moonchild (a bright berry purple) is one of my favorite lipsticks, right now! 3am was originally part of a Halloween collection, but was re-released into regular rotation due to popular demand.

Black Magic wears like a lip balm. It applies sheer and can be built up to your desired level of blackness. What it lacks in instant pigmented coverage, it more than makes up for in texture and scent. This Color Balm is infused with a blend of peppermint, pine, and nutmeg essential oils. I recommend using a lip brush for precise application and color build-up, but if you just want an on-the-go swipe of glossy sheer gray, go straight for the tube. Color Balm is available in a wide range of tints, if black isn’t your thing. This is a good option if you don’t feel 100% comfortable wearing a full-on black lip!

  1. Inner Decay has amazing pins and patches. I want one of everything. I especially love the “Decline and Fall” pin (because nerd), and am also really digging “RIP Feelings.”
  2. Growing up, I was Doc Martens obsessed, but was never actually able to afford a pair. While I love the classic black (and velvet, forever), this burgundy leather pair makes my eyes well. I might actually need these. Because let’s be honest, most of the things I feature in Friday Favorites are not things I really need.
  3. I finally finally bought the Pearl massage bar from LUSH. I tried it in person at the store in Portland and was immediately smitten. Argan oil is my favorite beauty ingredient,  and the rose fragrance of this bar is soft and feminine. It’s perfect for an occasional indulgence.
  4. I have not bothered to look for any new Sailor Moon merchandise since Crystal was originally released. Because, well. You know. That road is dangerous. That being said, these socks are everything. Everything. Yes I would wear them with burgundy Doc Martens. There is absolutely no shame in this magical girl heart of mine.
  5. This beautiful crescent moon cuff from Moorea Seal features snowflake obsidian, which has always been on of my favorites.
  6. This weekender bag has my name written all over it. Unfortunately, I do not travel enough to justify that sort of cost. It’s still lovely, though, and a great size!
  7. These limited edition ceramic mugs are a collaboration between artist Bill Crisafi and Sisters of the Black Moon.
