  1. I am 99% certain I need this tee.
  2. New elderberry soap from LUSH!
  3. Someone on my Instagram feed recently posted an excerpt from the introduction to this book, and now it’s officially on my reading list. This author has my dream job, and I often wish I had been better prepared and motivated immediately coming out of undergrad with my Asian Studies degree. I’m hoping working towards my Museum Studies MA will help push me in a workable and satisfying direction. I’m helping with research for a potential exhibit at my internship right now, and it’s sort of nice to be working with Japanese history (and maybe a little folklore), again.
  4. I’m back in the essential oils game! If you’re curious, check out my YL page for more information. When I first started out with Young Living three years ago, Valor was my favorite oil blend, but it was constantly sold out. They’ve since released Valor II, and I am all about it. It’s a blend of Young Living’s exclusive Northern Lights Black Spruce and Idaho Blue Spruce essential oils, along with Ylang Ylang, Frankincense, Vetiver, Cistus, Bergamot, Cassia, German Chamomile, and some others. This blend is calming, uplifting, and perfect for diffusing. If your “sacred space” (whatever that might entail) needs a refresh, this is the oil blend for the job. I really can’t talk it up enough. You can purchase it retail or by becoming a member. Let me know if you have questions!
  5. It’s almost flip flop weather! I hated flip flops for the longest time until I discovered Sanuk. Do yourself a favor this summer. I’ve raved about it before, but your feet will thank you.
  6. These stunningly simple hugging ear hoops by Melissa Joy Manning are available in rose gold, gold, and white gold from Free People. Made in the US. I’m falling more and more in love with bare basic jewelry like this. Is it an age thing? Give me something lovely that I can wear daily with anything, and I’m happy.
  7. This is the year of the slackline. Fingers crossed, but I’ve got a lot of backyard motivation right now. I’m really only familiar with Gibbon, but if anyone has any brand recommendations or best practices, I am all ears.
  8. You just can’t beat a knit dress, and I love this black and gray striped one.

  1. Even now, I’m still secretly a sucker for graphic tees (and a good moon print). I like this tank from ModCloth. #summergoth!
  2. The Rogue and the Wolf has a killer collection, but this ring (“the rule”) is my current favorite.
  3. The Jacinta Skirt from PrAna is 100% organic cotton, Fair Trade certified, and officially on my summer wish list. I love PrAna.
  4. I need these raspberry hibiscus marshmallows in my face. ASAP.
  5. I have big dreams for our outdoor space, this summer. Dreams that involve a lot of color. Does an outdoor space require coasters? Probably not. But I like these.
  6. This violet creme polish from SpaRitual is so, so gorgeous.
  7. This keyring from With Care. Good.
  8. New album from Sam Beam & Jesca Hoop, Love Letter for Fire! Preview here via NPR’s First Listen.

  • MAC is releasing a Star Trek collection! At first glance, that seems pretty cool, but I am a little disappointed. The collection reportedly draws inspiration specifically from Deanna Troi, Uhura, Seven of Nine and Vina. “‘Star Trek is an iconic pop culture phenomenon whose storylines pushed gender and racial boundaries,’ MAC creative director James Gager said in a statement. ‘For its 50th anniversary, we celebrate each of Star Trek’s powerful women in a transcending, transformational makeup collection.’ Okay. I support that. But …Vina? Not particularly “powerful.” What about Captain Janeway? What about Major Kira? Lt. Dax? Dr. Crusher? Tasha Yar? Perrin? I understand that Star Trek fans may not actually be the target audience, here, but there’s a huge missed opportunity to represent the whole Trek universe. Additional note: MAC is not a cruelty-free company. Its parent company, Estee Lauder, tests on animals where required by law, and is currently available for sale in China (where animal testing is required).
  • If you’re local to the Dover New Hampshire area, be sure to stop by 7th Settlement on Tuesday, April 12 to celebrate the unveiling of the Woodman IPA to help support The Woodman Museum. 6-10pm. Trivia! Food! Fun! I’ll probably be there!
  • I am so excited for the newest Love Goodly box! The April/May box celebrates Earth Day in collaboration with Alicia Silverstone, and will benefit Farm Sanctuary. Preview the box here.

It’s March, and of course that means that I already have swim style on my mind. These are some of my favorites from ModCloth. And surprise, not all of these are black, but most can be paired with black pieces! One of my goals for this summer is to get myself to the beach more often. We live so close to the coast, and I think I might love the ocean more than I dislike the seasonal crowds.

I promise, dear internet friends, that I have posts in draft with more depth to them. The problem is that writing that way takes serious time and care, and far more attention than I can give in the midst of serious assignments. For now, swim suits. Because.

Swimsuit Edition: Favorites from ModCloth

  1. Need I Say Shore one-piece in Deco
  2. Free Heart Robe (Free People)

I love the softness of the Deco suit. It’s got just enough black detailing that I think it would work really well with a sheer or lace black cover up, like this one from Free People.

Swimsuit Edition: Favorites from ModCloth

  1. Crisscrossed my Mind one-piece
  2. When and Flair one-piece

These two black basics each have great unique twists! One-piece suits don’t have to be boring. I am a huge fan of cut outs.

Swimsuit Edition: Favorites from ModCloth

  1. Par for the Shore one-piece
  2. Yoga Triangle sandal (Sanuk)

This little peachy suit might be my favorite of the whole bunch!  And while we’re talking about summer style, I want to take a moment to recommend Sanuk Yoga sandals to anyone who has gotten blisters from cheap rubber flip flops, summer after summer (after summer). I bought a pair a few years ago and will never go back. The Yoga line comes in a few different styles (the “mat” and “triangle” styles are my favorites), all of them with squishy squashy comfy rubber foot beds and soft straps. I got two summers of hard and non-stop wear out of my first pair, zero blisters.

Swimsuit Edition: Favorites from ModCloth

  1. Bathing Beauty two-piece in black
  2. Set the Serene top and bottom in Pineapples
  3. Sync or Swim top and bottom
  4. Hip, Hip, Soleil! top and bottom

Two-pieces! Okay so I am totally obsessed with that pineapple suit. Pair any of these, though, with the Esther Willams Bathing Beauty in black, and you have a winning combination (and four different suits!) Mix and match is the name of the game.
