This is the longest I’ve ever actively worked (& re-worked) a sketchbook. I am content enough with the finished product (aside from a couple small details) to set it aside for now, and start something new.
The last few days have been lovely.
refurbishing and showing some love to an old surfboard
(Eventually I will buy my own, something a little nicer and more fitting, but the only thing we’ve had to actually purchase is a bottle of mineral spirits, pending.)
driving in the sunshine with the top down
getting salt water in my mouth and eyes and ears
having time to read
making art (I’ve made stickers; I will share.)
coconut coffee, shampoo, surf wax
cozy late night conversations
I’ve had good energy,
the sun and the Atlantic.
Last night, Timothy stopped by my apartment on his way home, to tell me about his day (excitedly, animated) and to say goodnight.
This morning, one of the older women at work said I was a ray of light; she hugged me and kissed my forehead.
This afternoon, I finally caught a small wave and came up from the surf (with sand in my ears) to the cheering of two men I am so happy to have in my life.
On Tuesday I visited Boston while Timothy worked a Red Sox game. I don’t know why I didn’t take more photos. My phone was dying, I think.

It’s so strange to think that I hadn’t been to the MFA since 2004, when I was still at MassArt. A few things have changed (improved), but the things I used to love the most remain unaltered. The Asian and Islamic art galleries are still quiet, and still have that smell I loved so much.
I used to spend hours puttering around in those galleries and doodling.
Being there again was so relaxing. It’s such a calming, safe space for me.
I am going to admit to indulging in some retail therapy time while I was wandering around the city by myself…
mine] mid-quality white acrylic paint @Blick + new brushes, glittery Japanese stationery set, postcard of Ducks Swimming Upstream, cherry blossom print mini notebook, plush elephant made from recycled sari silk, Sailor Moon volume 2, High Fructose magazine volume 23, Sephora by OPI nail polish in “I Only Shop Vintage,” SpaRitual nail polish in “Epicurean”
That happened. I let it.
Sometimes I feel like a tool, using these filters.
But I like them. I think they’re fun.
I bought this little beauty from work to add to Timothy’s camera collection. As far as we can tell (despite its appearance), it’s in working condition. Only time will truly tell; the film isn’t particularly easy to find, and once we finish shooting the roll, it’s going to be even more difficult to find someone who can develop and print it.
Thanks for stopping by. My name is Naomi, and this space is made of girldust. This blog is a picture of my comfortably scattered life on the coast of Maine. I'm trying to be a slightly better version of myself every day. I like old houses, reading, the ocean, ghost stories, and museums. You can learn a little bit more about me here.
